About Phase 5 Publishing

Who

Phase 5 Publishing, LLC is a limited liability company organized under the laws of North Carolina. It's manager is Rebecca Ledford: a life-long fan of science fiction, fantasy, and horror art, literature and movies; an editor for friends and employers for more than 20 years; and an obsessive maker.

Individual creators' bio pages list more information about the talented artists, authors, musicians, etc., who contribute their labors to Phase 5 Publishing.

What

Phase 5 Publishing is a small publishing company focused on using current technologies and fan demand to determine the means and method of distributing its publications. To maximize the number of works we can publish and to minimize the time from acceptance to press, Phase 5's main method of publishing is e-publishing (electronic publishing). For more information, see the Frequently Asked Questions.

When

Phase 5 Publishing, LLC was organized and began publication in 2010. Serials are published on various schedules, depending on the purpose and the demand for each: Monthy Review is published monthly; Year End Review is published annually; Presents and Transmissions are published as works are finalized; Specials and Customs are published as anthologies/collections are finalized or ordered, and novels (technically Specials) are produced as they are finalized.

Where

You can find single issues of any of the serials for sale on the Catalog page.

Why

The manager of Phase 5 Publishing, LLC has long danced around the publishing industry, working in a small print shop, a photo/graphics shop, on various school publications and for a university-housed technical scientific journal. Technology today has made the cost of publishing, especially electronic publishing, extremely accessible. Phase 5 takes advantage of the new technologies, outlets, and distribution methods to make as many works as we can publish available to as many fans as we can reach. Electronic formats and print on demand providers allow us to publish for significantly lower prices, while enabling us to provide great exposure for the creators. This high-volume/low-inventory model allows us to explore a large variety of creators, even unpublished creators, in an effort to provide fans with great new work that might take years to flow through traditional publishing houses.

Does this mean that we are online only? Not at all. We love books as much as any fan. But the fact is, the publishing industry is a segment of the entertainment industry, which is changing more rapidly than many corporations are able to adapt. Our goal is to work with all options and technologies to give the fans what they want and the creators what they need - the ability to earn money for their labors.

How

By taking advantage of third-party providers, Phase 5 is able to provide fans with literature and art in a variety of formats including periodicals in electronic or paper form, podcasts, anthologies in electronic or paper form, art books in electronic or paper form, screen saver collections, serialized stories. We also encourage fans to create their own collection or anthology in electronic or paper formats. Utilizing providers who already have established markets as well as direct sales to fans, we can distribute a wide variety of formats, at a reasonable price. We hope this will allow fans to explore new works and new creators in whatever format they feel comfortable with, and allow the creators to attain greater exposure and large-volume sales.
